INTRODUCTION
Lavanya Siri D is an Indian multidisciplinary artist, researcher and a storyteller whose work unfolds at the intersections of myth, memory and meaning. Drawing from a lifelong practice
of inquiry, her art is driven by a desire to understand how transformation happens within individuals and in societies.
Her visual language leans into symbolism and layered abstraction, often informed by spiritual and speculative thinking.
In her evolving practice, she seeks to work in cycles of listening-lingering-layering where thinking and feeling are not divided, but braided together in a kind of inner listening, which she finds to be an effective way to cultivate a sense of invigorating stillness, a way of life she consciously seeks, amidst the hustle of the age of speed and distractions.
Based in India in the historical city of Mysuru, she is a
Design Researcher in her day job, where she contributes
at the intersection of people, businesses, and new technology.
She hold a Masters Degree in Design from NID, India.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is an exploration of the idea of transformation through self reflection, where I seek to unravel the complexities of emotions through paintings and proses.
I am driven by a deep curiosity about how internal and external forces shape the human experience.
My art stems from a drive to bridge the real and the imaginary, inviting viewers to see everyday life as a portal to deeper truths and transformation.
Painting, for me, is a way of accessing my emotions often buried or elusive. As I'm on that path, I've come to discover that my every stroke and choice of color, mirrors my
attempt to balance spontaneity with control.
My process is shaped by contradictions. I work on creating
a dynamic tension between lightness and depth, figuration and abstraction, clarity and mystery through assigning symbolic meanings to forms and playing with the overall composition.
In my previous works, I’ve picked narratives from ancient mythology as well as created original narratives around everyday encounters with nature.
I am particularly drawn to creating visual allegories that unfold in layers, inviting viewers to find their own stories within my work.
This practice helps me deepens my intuition. It enables me to explore a multitude of stories around my own emotions, challenges, and moments of personal growth, omnisciently, both up close and from a distance, like a lens zooming in and out! I am drawn toward how art can merge the spiritual with the everyday, inviting viewers to see the sacred in the mundane. I find that the intersections of nature, daily life, and myth have limitless rich layers to be explored.
The space of "what’s yet to come" keeps me in motion, pushing me toward new techniques, themes, and textures. In this constant evolution, I find this practice is of both discovery and rediscovery where each finished piece only reveals another possibility!
VISUAL STYLE
I work primarily with acrylic and gouache. I layer familiar forms, with symbolic elements to crafts compositions that are both recognizable and open to interpretation, with abstract or partially detailed backgrounds, rendering a visual narrative of each chosen theme or story.
